VALIDATION OF PRESCRIPTIONS FOR CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES

A two-hour continuing education course designed to comply with the Florida Board of Pharmacy’s Administrative Rule 64B16-27.831 for the validation of prescriptions for controlled substances.

Objectives:

Explain the importance of access to controlled substances for all patients with a valid prescription.Review the use of the Florida Prescription Drug Monitoring Program’s Database.

Review the assessment of prescriptions for appropriate therapeutic use.

Review the methodology for detecting prescriptions not based on a legitimate medical purpose.

Review the laws and rules related to the prescribing and dispensing of controlled substances.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE*

This program will address topics such as whether domestic violence is a public health issue or a human rights issue. This training will bring awareness of the central role that survivors have played and continue to play in the development and delivery of domestic violence services. Acquire an appreciation of prevention work as a critical part of our response to domestic violence as individuals and in our profession.

The training will also address the different difficulties among women, race, and immigration status

MEDICAL ERRORS*

This program has been designed specifically for clinical healthcare providers including nurses, dietitians and certified health education specialists, etc. This presentation provides the learner with an overview of the problems related to medical errors within the health care industry as well as a discussion of the multiple factors that contribute to their occurrence. The learner will be provided information related to the frequency of medical errors, the role human error plays in the frequency of incidence, as well as methodologies for prevention and mitigation of errors. Discussion will also be held at efforts toward reduction of medical errors through regulatory initiatives, legislative mandates, and industry self-regulation efforts via patient safety programs. Error reduction strategies will also be discussed in light of technology adoption and reporting procedures.

ETHICS & BOUNDARIES*

This program will explore contemporary ethical issues in clinical social work practice. The NASW Code of Ethics will be used as a basis for discussion. Participants will be shown to recognize potential issues that may indicate ethical decision points. You will become more familiar with current state laws and rules. Participants will learn how to create a safe and consistent therapeutic environment to eliminate ethical dilemmas.

HIV/AIDS UPDATE*
3:30 pm – 4:30 pm | 1.0 credit hours ($17.00)

This program has been designed for ANY healthcare provider that needs to meet their state mandated licensure requirements for HIV/AIDS. This program has been developed for healthcare providers as an update on the current epidemiology, prevention techniques and care of clients with HIV
infection. Modes of transmission between healthcare provider and patient, and patient to healthcare provider will be discussed. Also presented, will be clinical management, infection control, and Florida laws on AIDS as they relate to testing, confidentiality and treatment of patients.

Motivational Interviewing for Healthcare Professionals

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a person-centered, collaborative style of communication that focuses on empowering individuals to make therapeutic changes by resolving ambivalence in a compassionate, accepting environment. This seminar will provide an introductory overview of the rationale, history and strategies used in MI and Motivationally Enhanced Treatments (MET) in individual and group formats. This is an interactive seminar that will include videos and participant role-plays. Following this presentation, participants will be able to:
• Identify when MI techniques and strategies could be beneficial in therapy.
• Understand the importance of helping clients identify and resolve ambivalence
about changing.
• Learn how to avoid common communication traps that can undermine
therapeutic progress.
• Identify clients’ readiness and motivation for change utilizing MI techniques.
